Winter Camp and Yuletide Blast

Hello Team,

I hope that everyone is having a great start to the holidays!

Just a reminder that today is the last day to register for the camp - there are no race day registrations. The race notice and registration link can be found here:

https://xcskiontario.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Yuletide-Ski-Blast-Race-Notice-2019-REVISED-.pdf

https://zone4.ca/register.asp?id=22460&lan=1&cartlevel=1

Please don't forget to register both on Zone4 for the race, as well as to fill out the survey that Scott has sent around so that SOD knows who is coming!

The new plan for the day is as follows:

8am - Bib pickup (Madi will be there around 7:45am)
8:30am - Team meeting (probably at or near the start line)
9am - Race Start
11:30am (depending on race times) to 1pm: Lunch and follow up on goal setting
1:30-2:30pm - Ski with balance and downhill practice
3-3:30pm pick up!

If anyone has any questions about racing and/or warm ups and cool downs that they would like to include in a race plan before the camp, please feel free to email me at madison.fraser96@gmail.com.

Looking forward to seeing you all there and in race mode!

Winter Camp Update

The Yuletide Blast is now tentatively rescheduled for December 28th, the day of the camp.

We will still be holding the camp on Saturday December 28th - the race will just be incorporated into the camp schedule.

Please come prepared to race, and bring a change of clothes for an easy afternoon workout as well (it will be short). An updated schedule will be sent out once the updated race notice is posted.

The race notice (not yet updated) can be found here if anyone is curious about the distance they will be racing: https://xcskiontario.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Yuletide-Ski-Blast-Race-Notice-2019.pdf

Until then, keep your fingers crossed for some good snowy weather!

Winter Camp

Hey team,

I hope everyone is getting excited - the race season is almost here! A quick update for the winter camp:

The camp will be on December 28th at Highlands. The camp cost is $7 plus a trail ticket (we will buy a group set day-of).

Equipment list:
- skate skis, boots, and poles
- running shoes
- warm ski clothes x2 (one set for the morning, one for the afternoon)
- indoor exercise clothes
- lunch and snacks
- water and/or sport drink
- a watch (and heart rate monitor if you have one)

Here is the general schedule:

Meet at 9am
First workout will start at 9:30am and will be a skate ski (~ 2 hours)
Lunch
Workshop - follow up on goal setting, talk about race strategies
Second workout will be a second skate ski, focusing on agility (downhills and corners) and balance
We will end with some stretching and yoga
Camp will end at 3pm.

Please RSVP to this camp via email to either myself or Scott, or by filling out this survey if you haven't already: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScJXkUojzo89xaIY86xQYWHs97XMM3wqCx7IIxZ6UyBbQWh_g/viewform

To everyone racing this weekend either at Nakkertok or the Yuletide Blast - good luck! Remember to have fun out there - the first race on skis can often feel a bit rusty and off kilter.

If you need a reminder mid race, I recommend finding a spot on the course during the pre-ski where you will smile each time you pass it in the race - the bottom of a hill is always good!

Hope to see you all at the winter camp, but until then - Happy Holidays!

As I'm sure many of you have heard already, the ski community suffered a massive loss last week with the passing of Shelby Dickey. For those who didn't know her, Shelby was the SOD coach for the last two years, and was a strong competitor in skiing for many years before that. She was an incredible friend, teammate, and coach, known for her optimism, kindness, and determination. I have heard wonderful stories from many of the SOD athletes about their time being an athlete of Shelby's. She will be dearly missed. Athletes and parents who would like to send a message to the family or attend a memorial service, more information can be found here: https://memorials.carruthersdavidson.com/shelby-dickey/3961483/obituary.php

XCSO Camp Update

Here are the latest updates about the XCSO camp, which is taking place July 27th and 28th.

Food:
  • Athletes are responsible for food on Saturday. I recommend bringing sandwiches (dinner) and lots of snacks!
  • All meals are provided on Sunday (breakfast, lunch, dinner), however pre and post training snacks will be up to the athlete to bring
  • Bring lots of water and/or sport drink for workouts, and make sure that you have a drink belt or a way of carrying water with you on workouts
Camping:
  • Camping equipment is not provided - I've created a GoogleDoc for the camp: if anyone does not have a tent, or has extra tents they are willing to bring, please post there so we can make sure everyone is well-equipped!
  • Other camping equipment for athletes to bring includes sleeping bags, pillows, and sleeping mats
Parent volunteers:
  • The XCSO Camp is looking for parent volunteers to help out over the weekend, especially with athlete transportation!
  • If you are available over the weekend, please make a note in the GoogleDoc (link below) of when you are able to help out, if you will be able to drive athletes to/from training sessions, and how many people your car can fit.
  • Parents are welcome to camp as well, and volunteers will be provided with camp meals.
Another note: the full camp goes from July 25th until July 30th. It is recommended for athletes U14 to do only the weekend training, however if you are interested please feel free to register for the full camp!
* I will only be attending on Saturday and Sunday

Registration:

  • Registration closes July 25th
  • Be sure to register on the athlete's registration page, not the coaches! (link below)
